The leadership race in the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is becoming keener every day as more names continue to come up for the coveted bid.
However, recent assessment of party members and opinion polls has placed Dr. Anthony Kakpindi Soyei, top of the race. This latest development, according to party sources, came in the wake the just concluded regional consultative meeting of the SLPP in which the young and dynamic Dr. Soyei was highly commended by party faithfulls for his immense contribution towards the success of the conferences. This, according to party members has earned him the name – ‘The Party’s Man.’ Dr. Soyei exhibited his love for the party when he, in consonant with the Southern Regional Executive and Bo District Executive hosted the entire region at his prestigious Marta Bernassola Nursing College Hall, off Korinbondo Road for a two-day workshop during the just concluded conference in Bo. SLPP Soyei did not only offer his premises for the occasion but also fed all the participants who attended the workshop for the two days. The spirit of giving and sharing so impressed the National SLPP Chairman and Leader Mr. John Oponjo Benjamin that he publicly commended Dr Soyei for his kindness and love for the Party and encouraged all to emulate the selfless sacrifice shown by the learned SLPP doctor. In the Eastern Region on the same regional workshop Dr Soyei again worked together with the Eastern Regional Executive and the Kenema District executive that played host to the Kailahun and Kono districts to feed all the representatives for the two day session. Again Dr Soyei was publicly thanked by the District Women’s Leader, Miss Gita Gobeh for his timely gesture. To the insiders of the Party, this has not come as a surprise as Dr Soyei before aspiring for the SLPP flagbearership has been known to be the ‘Partyman.’ In another development the SLPP ‘Partyman’ also participated in the Northern region deliberations held in Makeni city on the 29th of January 2009. Dr Soyei together with Regional Executive contributed in making the meeting a success. While in Makeni, he also had a brief meeting with the Bombali District SLPP executive where he made a handsome contribution to the young generation and the women wings of the party. Dr Soyei was overwhelming welcomed and the SLPP Think Tank member in all the regions. For these and more of such contributions made in the past, the young and dynamic Dr Soyei has slowly but surely won the heart and minds of members of the SLPP. |
