Some 168 temporary workers at the National Revenue Authority (NRA) will, against the end of March face the axe; The Exclusive has been reliably informed.

The sacking, according to reliable sources, will affect workers in all the departments within the Authority. This includes Customs and Excise, None Tax Revenue, GST and Income Tax departments.

However, the decision by the President Koroma led government to render such a huge number of employees (mostly youths) jobless has been received with mixed feeling by members of the public as it will add to already high unemployment rate in the country. Members of the ruling party, sources say, have also raised eye brows at the government decision as according to what the press gathered, the sacking will affect committed youth members of the party.

Notable among APC members that are going face the President’s axe is the popular APC youth propagandist and Pro-Koroma texter in radio programmes, Sahr Mokuwa.According to reliable sources, this decision will cast doubt over the APC government’s promise to address the high unemployment rate in the country and by extension give the party a bad name.

The reason for the sacking is not yet clear but from what this press has gathered, it is not unconnected to the President’s resolve to overhaul certain government institutions. However, inside sources say the Board of Directors of NRA may consider retaking some of the sack victims who may have proven useful to the establishment.
