The Board of Governors of Government Municipal Secondary School, Kissy Dock Yard has rewarded Principal Elfrida W.G. Scott for her long, dedicated and outstanding service to the school.

Mrs. Scott received a plaque inscribed with encouraging words from one of the directors during the school’s 44th prize giving ceremony past weekend at the school’s ground.

Mrs. Scott has attained 35 years experience in administration after serving the school as a teacher since 1975. She worked assiduously in various other disciplines as a teacher, head of department, acting principal and principal. Receiving the award, Mrs. Scott thanked the Board for acknowledging her work over the years and promised to continue doing the good work that would lift the school into higher heights.

She disclosed that the school has, following remarkable achievement at the BECCE examination attained Senior Secondary School status and disclosed that the school’s first attempt in the WASSCE was not only encouraging but has brought a major challenge to other pupils that they can still make it with Government Municipal.

She revealed that 236 pupils sat for the WASSCE examination last year and 5 of them passed in 9 subjects, 10 passed in 8, 24 in 7 subjects, 31 in 6 subjects, 37 in 5 subjects, 39 in 7 subjects while 69 passed in 3 subjects.

The school, she noted, has expanded over the years resulting into the construction of additional blocks and extra staff.

The Principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mr. Sawyer in his extra-ordinary speech thanked the Exclusive Newspaper, the Sierra Leone Road Authority, Alhaji Unisa Awoko Sesay, Alhaji M.S. Kargbo among others for their immense contributions in making the prize giving a real success.

Giving her vote of thanks, Juliana Kadie Kamara said the event was significant, in the sense that her colleagues have not been isolated but publicly commended for excellence in various subjects. The guest speaker and the two schools’ principals, she pointed out, have made inspiring speeches and the recognition of pupils’ performance has served as a motivation for them in line with their school’s motto- ‘Facta Non Verbi,’ meaning: Deeds Not Words.
