The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has announced that the deadline for declaration of intent for the position of Presidential Candidate for the 2012 presidential election is August 31, 2010 which is in accordance with the 1995 party constitution as amended and the rules and regulations.
In a press statement dated July 20, 2010 and signed by the SLPP Secretary General, Jacob Jusu Saffa, the delegates at the February 2010 National Party Conference in Bo resolved that the election of candidates for the 2012 presidential election be held in March 2011. “The National Secretariat wishes to inform interested SLPP members that the rules and regulations have been finalized and are available at the secretariat. The National Secretariat would also like to inform interested party members that the Special Advisory Committee for election of Presidential Candidates shall meet in September 2010 to evaluate and recommend all declarations of intent,” the press statement reads. SECRETARIAT REMINDER Secretary General Jacob Jusu Saffa writes that the Secretariat would also like to remind interested party members that no member shall be eligible to contest or allowed to hold meetings or engage in other forms of public campaigning at any level until such member has declared his/her intent with the National Secretariat. Intending aspirants who meet the declaration requirement shall be immediately allowed to commence campaigning even before the deadline for declaration, the press statement concludes. |
